"Learning and Lodging" educational adventure programs run by the Grand Canyon Field Institute, at the South Rim.
Learning something new is always an adventure. Ditto traveling to somewhere that is both inspiring and memorable. Put them both together with an educational adventure to Grand Canyon National Park. This year, Learning and Lodging Adventure programs focus on the formation of the canyon and its unique human history, including the Havasupai tribe which lives in a broad, green side canyon filled with impressive waterfalls. It is a weekend program, from Friday through Sunday. Under the leadership of a Grand Canyon Field Institute guide/naturalist, the group spends Saturday hiking and exploring along and below the South Rim, with stops along the way for discussions on the park's geology and ecology. On Sunday, the hike is to various overlooks with discussions on the canyon's human history and more geology. The two-day, two-night program includes accommodations at Yavapai Lodge or Maswik Lodge, in-park transportation, two breakfast and lunches, one dinner, a guide each day, and instructional materials, plus a certificate when you 'graduate' the course. These are weekend programs, Friday through Sunday, from now through the end of October 2007, and are ideal for families, but children must be at least 10 years old to participate. The cost for children sharing a room with two adults is $196, but the cost for two grownups ranges from $592.92 to $656.74, depending on season.
