Visit ancient and towering colonnaded temples and pyramids that hold thousands of years of secrets.

Egypt is a fascinating place, steeped in world history and antiquities. Uniworld, which specializes in small ship cruises, has added this historic destination to its worldwide itinerary.

Beginning February 12, 2007, through the end of the year, you can join the Splendors of Egypt trip, a 13-day cruise and tour of Cairo. Start with four nights in the bustling city of Cairo/Giza – where the legendary Sphinx has been amazing and confounding onlookers for more than two thousand years.

Then, a seven-night leisurely cruise along the Nile traveling past romantic desert hills, lush oases, modern cities and ancient colonnaded temples and pyramids.

Another program is Jewels of the Nile, from April 3, 2007, through Xmas. This 12-day itinerary features Lake Nasser and the towering statues of the Great Temple of Abu Simbel. This itinerary includes four nights in Cairo, three nights cruising Lake Nasser, and three nights cruising the Nile.

Tour guides are trained Egyptologists, ready to explain why they are called mummies and not daddies.

Cost starts at $2,820 per person, double occupancy from New York.

There’s an optional six day extension to Jordan to either trip, which includes ancient lost city of Petra, which is carved out of rose-colored sandstone – you’ll recognize the famous Treasury building from Indiana Jones movies -- and the moonscapes of Wadi Rum.
