What to do in St. Lucia? The Caribbean island boasts adventure travel tours for the whole family. Here's a round-up of top adventure activities in St. Lucia.

St. Lucia offers the adventure traveler a unique combination of mountain, rainforest, and ocean activities, ranging from tranquil sailing to adrenaline-pumping zip lining. Even better, the wide variety of activities available on this Caribbean makes this destination a good one for families and groups of friends who have different interests . Here's a summary of some of St. Lucia's top adventure tour packages, showcasing the range of activities available in St. Lucia's three ecosystems.

St. Lucia Rainforest Adventures

Pretty much the entire interior of the island is a rainforest. St. Lucia rainforest adventures include hiking trails, bird-watching, swimming in waterfalls, and visiting the botanical garden and zoo, which feature native species.

  • St. Lucia's Forestry Department maintains walking paths and hiking trails in reserves throughout the island. Guided hikes are available, and can be arranged at most hotels.
  • The Botanical Garden near Soufriere boasts displays of native plants and the Diamond Waterfall.
  • The Miniature Zoo near Union highlights endemic animals such as the St,. Lucia python, iguana, and parrot.
  • Zip lining is one of st, Lucia's signature activities. Two different outfitters offer a variety of zip line and rainforest adventure tours.

St. Lucia Mountain Adventures

St. Lucia has a potentially active volcano. Its signature mountains, the Petit and Gros Pitons dominate views on the western side of the island.

  • The Pitons are best accessed from Soufriere on the West Coast. Despite their impossible appearance, both can be climbed with guides in a strenuous day-trip,.
  • The Soufriere Volcano allows visitors to drive into the actual crater. Natural (that means no amenities) hot springs and mud baths are available.

St. Lucia Ocean Adventures

  • Scuba Diving and snorkeling are first rate here. St. Lucia has clear and quiet water, and many dive sites are just a short boat ride from shore. At Marigot Bay, a dive and snorkel boat goes out daily.
  • Kayaking is also popular, although more practical and safer in protected coves, or in the quieter waters of the island's western side. The Atlantic-facing side can have rough water.
  • Sunset sails near Soufriere take visitors under the shadow of the Pitons. A champagne cruise is a stunning way to end an adventurous day. Single-hulled and catamaran trips are both available.

St, Lucia villas and hotels can usually book adventure tours for their guests and recommend guides and outfitters. However, one waring: Although the island is only about 30 miles long from north to south, St. Lucia's mountain roads are extremely windy; So the distances aren't as short as they look on a map. Figure an hour and a half from one end of the island to the other (and more, if meandering on the very challenging roads on the western side of the island between Vieux Fort and Soufriere). Still, this puts most of the island's attractions a reasonable distance away from whichever St. Lucia hotels and villas a visitor chooses.
